Have you made any New Year's Resolutions?  If you are like me, you have vowed to get healthier, shed a few unwanted holiday pounds, and just generally enjoy and enrich your life.  Luckily for us, science tells us that wine will help us do all of this and more!  Don't take my word for it, just click on this link for more details: www.wine.about.com/od/wineandhealth.

Meanwhile, The Tasting Room has resolved to continue to bring you exciting new finds in the world of wine while working diligently to expand the scope of our services.  We look forward to many exciting new developments in the year to come and would once again like to thank all of you for your support.

UPTOWN - Feature Events

Tonight, Thursday, January 5th. Kristine Mills at Uptown  7-10pm.
Kristine swings back into our cozy little room with her sassy blend of perky standards, romantic ballads and a few new original numbers that have really wowed the crowd in her last few appearances.  Welcome back, Kristine.

Saturday, January 7th.  2-4pm. $5.
Be among the first to try TTR's newest find, the outstanding wines of Argentina's Pulenta Estate.  From gorgeous Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay to finely delineated Malbec and a superior Bordeaux blend called 'Gran Corte', this boutique producer has really caught our attention.  Do not miss this one!

Monday, January 9th.  6-8pm.  $5.
Feeling a little run-down after the hectic holidays?  Why not take a 'vacation in a glass' to the South of France?  Enjoy wines from the Southern Rhone, Languedoc and Provence as you let your cares slowly drift away.  It's like a cool Mediterranean breeze, only more alcoholic.

MIDTOWN - Feature Events

Tonight, Thursday, January 5th.  Eric Tatum on Guitar.  7:30-10:30pm.
I am sure you have seen us featuring Eric's Midtown performances on many a newsletter.  The reason is simple--Eric Tatum rules on guitar.  If you have not been in to see him, it is high time you stopped in to catch one of his stellar performances.

Saturday, January 7th.  5-7pm. $5.
Talk about tunnel vision!  When most people think of the American Northwest, they think of mountain ranges, lush forests and overcast coastal ranges.  At TTR, we think of great wines.  Of course, when we're talking about juice like that produced by A to Z Wineworks, Canoe Ridge and Penner-Ash, who can blame us?

Monday, January 9th.  6-8pm.  $5.
Were you unable to attend one of Matthew's exclusive Grateful Palate tastings?  Then join him for his Australia for the Masses tasting, featuring some of his favorites from his summertime jaunt and beyond.  Bring a toothbrush, lest you leave with purple teeth!

Weekly Steals:

Pulenta Estate Sauvignon Blanc 2005, $23.99:
This elegant, clearly defined Sauvignon is among a handful of white wines leading a revolution of style in Argentina.  Gone are the days of green, hard wines that are nearly a chore to drink.  In their place are wines like this -- clean, expressive sips with bright fruit, citrus snap and a mineral edge.  Only 373 cases made, only available at TTR.

Joseph Phelps 'Backus' Cabernet Sauvignon 2000, $159.99:
Joseph Phelps extraordinarily limited single-vineyard Cabernet, this cult wine has been made from the 21-acre Backus Vineyard since 1977.  Situated just southeast of the intersection of the Silverado Trail and the Oakville Crossroad, this plot carries the weight of Napa history and tradition with grace and ease.  The wine, featuring black currant, rose petal, sage and graphite tones, is quintessential California Cabernet.  Of the 1,000 cases made, only two six packs remain in Houston.  Both are available through TTR. *Purchase of a bottle will make you eligible to purchase a highly-collectible Phelps 'Backus' Cabernet 2002 upon release.

Jerry's Notes:

It is hard to believe, but we have already turned the page on 2005!  With everything that has happened in the past year, I can hardly wait to see what '06 has in store for us here at The Tasting Room.  With expansions, new openings and franchising on the near horizon, the coming year promises to be the most exciting yet for the TTR family!  Lastly, I hope you had a fantastic holiday, and Happy New Year!

Salud!

Jerry
